2025 OSWS Retreat
The Oceti Sakowin Writers Society’s 32nd Annual Tribal Writers Retreat will take place Wednesday, Sept. 24, to Saturday, Sept. 27, in Eagle Butte, SD. The retreat will be hosted at the Cheyenne River Youth Project, a fabulous nonprofit that is providing the space free of charge in exchange for our members working with their youth participants on storytelling skills.
The OSWS Board of Directors has been busy planning and raising funds for this year’s retreat. We are pleased to announce that we are working with Chokecherry Consulting for this year’s event. Pamela Garcia ran a smooth and efficient retreat in 2024, so we are working with her again this year on a variety of Society business.
An official agenda will be posted soon; until then, here’s a quick overview of this year’s retreat:
9/24: Lodging check-in and welcome dinner at 6 p.m.
9/25: Writing activities and workshops with Society mentors; Society mentors will offer evening workshops with Cheyenne River Youth Project participants.
9/26: Writing activities and manuscript reading/editing/feedback with Society mentors and members. Community Read & Feed at the Cheyenne River Youth Project.
9/27: Annual Society Board Meeting. Retreat concludes after lunch.
Like last year, Pamela will reach out to OSWS members in the coming weeks with more details about how to register for the retreat, including information about travel scholarships, which cover hotel, food, and mileage.
The Oceti Sakowin Writers Society is continuing to expand and grow in a number of good ways. We can't wait to share them with you this September at the 32nd annual retreat in Eagle Butte!
